Not every relationship is meant to be. It doesn't look like this one will be ready for you for quite some time. To be honest, I think it might be a good idea to follow he advice and not limit your relationship possibilities to he. Love alone cannot make a relationship work long-term. You need support from all immediate members in the family, a willingness to share just about all aspects of your life together, communication and trust. While you may have the communication and trust, you do not have the other two. Without those, this relationship never had any future potential. I know this doesn't help with the hurt and loneliness you are probably feeling now, but these emotions dim over time. It may not feel like you will find someone else as great as he, but you will. Console yourself and then start keeping an eye out for other romantic opportunities.
